For clubs, associations and small companies
How I work
From the first call to a site that keeps living.
Every project is a little different, but the rhythm repeats. I wrote it down so you know what happens once you say yes, when you get to see something, and who looks after the site after it goes live.
Five steps
The meeting
We meet in person or on a call, and half an hour is usually enough. I want to know what the site has to achieve, who will use it, and what bothers you most about the one you have. I ask more questions than seems necessary, because that is where the expensive surprises hide. This conversation is free and commits you to nothing.
You get: an honest answer on whether I can help at all.
Research and a quote
I look at what you have and how it behaves on a phone, at what comparable clubs and companies are doing, and at where the openings are. Then you get a quote with a clear scope, price and deadline, including what the quote does not cover. That way neither of us is surprised later.
You get: a written quote and a proposed structure for the site.
The build
I work in pieces and show you each one on a link you can open whenever you like. We settle the content along the way, not at the very end. If something comes up that the quote does not cover, we agree on the price and the deadline first, and only then do I build it.
You get: a working preview and regular contact.
Handover
Once you are happy, the site goes live. I move it to your domain and hosting, set up redirects from the old addresses, and take care of speed, the mobile view and the search basics. At the end I show you how to edit the content yourself and leave you short instructions, so you don't have to call me about every comma.
You get: a published site, every login, and instructions.
Maintenance
A site is not finished the day it goes live. If you want, I keep looking after it: updates, backups, small changes and an answer when something breaks. Monthly, with no long contract. If you would rather handle it yourself, that is fine too, the logins are yours from day one.
You get: a site that still works a year from now.
What's included
On every site, whatever its size, these are part of the job and not an extra line at the bottom of the invoice.
- A design and build shaped around what you actually do, not a bought template.
- Your existing content moved over, with redirects so links from Google and Facebook still work.
- Speed and the mobile view as a condition, not a separate item.
- Forms, schedules, sign-ups and galleries, whatever your work needs.
- Ownership stays with you: the domain, the hosting, the content and every login are in your name.
There is no price on this page, because it depends on the scope. The number, and what it buys, comes in the quote after the meeting, before I start anything.
The questions I get most
- How long does it take?
- A smaller site is usually done two to three weeks after the quote is signed, a larger redesign in four to six. What sets the pace is almost always the content, not the code.
- Who writes the text and finds the photos?
- It's fastest if you bring the content and I edit and place it. If you don't have any, we write it together, from a conversation and from whatever already exists. For photos I tell you what we need and how they should be shot.
- What if I already have a site?
- Then we first work out whether it's worth renewing what you have or starting fresh. Sometimes a new look and tidied content is enough, sometimes moving is cheaper than repairing.
- Who owns the site?
- You do. The domain, the hosting and the content are in your name, and so are the logins. If we stop working together, the site stays with you and anyone can pick it up.
Get in touch
Tell me briefly what you need and I'll get back to you within a few days. The first conversation is free and commits you to nothing.
If you don't yet know exactly what you need, that's fine. Working that out is what the first step is for.
