Mojca Dimič · Software engineer · Ljubljana

Curiousby default.

I build things for the web, from React frontends to the Linux servers they run on. I care about the people on a project as much as the code behind it — evenings often go to software for the people around me, like the futsal club I play for.

About

Some kids grow out of their computer phase. Mine took me to Ljubljana to study Computer and Information Science, and it still hasn't worn off.

I turned it into work in 2023: first programming the PLC controllers that drive automated warehouses — software where a bug doesn't throw an exception, it stops a warehouse — then a year and a half of DevOps, keeping Linux servers and CI pipelines healthy and automating anything I had to do twice. Today I build full-stack at World Discovery.

Engineering skills get you a working product. Soft skills make it the right one.

What I enjoy most isn't the code alone, it's the people around it. I like sitting down with the person who will actually use the thing and asking questions until I really understand what they need.

Most of what I make outside work starts close to home: the futsal club I play for, or the paperwork of my own one-person business, which grew into Espe. Software is more fun when you can watch someone use it — and when they can complain straight to you when something breaks.

I speak Slovenian, English and enough Croatian to get by.

Work

  1. – now

    Software Engineer World Discovery

Building a travel company's CRM, where every trip travels from first inquiry to final payout. I started with Retool and a lot of hand-written SQL. These days I'm writing its next generation in React, TypeScript and Laravel on PostgreSQL.

  2. Full-Stack Developer, part time a startup in Ljubljana

Built a web application end to end: a React frontend with a Node.js and Django backend on top of PostgreSQL.

  3. DevOps Engineer Smart Octopus Solutions

Kept server infrastructure and Linux systems running smoothly. Set up test and production environments, introduced CI/CD, automated the everyday, and wrote internal tooling in Bash, Python and JavaScript.

  4. Junior Software Engineer ASIT d.o.o.

Developed and maintained the Siemens TIA Portal software that powers automated warehouses, side by side with a team of experienced engineers.

Side projects

Evenings and weekends produce software too — mostly for people who have my phone number. Best user testing there is.

FC Trzin homepage: a dark hero with the club crest and name over a team huddle photo, a sign-up banner for the futsal school and quick facts about the club.

fc-trzin.si

live & maintained

The club needed a home on the internet too, so I learned WordPress and built one. The first version ran on Elementor, the current one is a custom theme I wrote from scratch. Schedules, sign-ups and news from the club — I still keep it up to date, which turns out to be its own lesson in software maintenance.

Espe

for me and a few friends

Espe is how we say s.p. out loud, the Slovenian one-person business. The paperwork is the same for all of us. Invoice numbers that never skip, documents that cannot change once issued, an audit trail if anyone asks. So I built it for myself and a few friends who run one too. Every invoice carries a UPN QR code, the data stays on your own machine, and it runs in Docker so a friend can set it up without me.

After hours

I play futsal for the women's team at FC Trzin. There is also tennis, football with friends and the occasional hill. Sport keeps proving the same point — showing up beats talent — so I keep showing up.

And then there is sailing, the love I only found as an adult. Give me a boat, a bit of wind and a free day and you will not hear from me until sunset.

Since 2015 I have volunteered with Zveza prijateljev mladine Krško: workshops for kids through the year, and seven summers so far as a group leader at the seaside camp in Nerezine.
